John Phillip Nowak

A graveside service for John Phillip Nowak, 89, a Carson City resident for the past nine months, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Alpine Cemetery in Alpine, Calif.

Mr. Nowak died Dec. 5, 2003, in Carson City. He was born May 7, 1914, in Leavenworth, Kan., to John and Karolina Nowak Bock.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Reno, moving from Lemon Grove, Calif., where he lived for 40 years.

Mr. Nowak retired as an engineer from General Dynamics in San Diego. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Lemon Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and sisters Jenny Nowak and Ola Taylor.

Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law Phil and Barbara of Reno and two grandchildren.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
