Local gymnasts win state title

The Silver State Gymnastics Academy of Carson City continued its strong showing this fall with an outstanding effort at the Nevada State Gymnastics Championships recently held in Reno.

Silver State's level 6 team won the state title while its level 5 team narrowly missed winning the state crown. The level 5 team placed second, finishing less than one-tenth of a point out of first. Silver State also had many state champions in individual events.

Samantha Cobb, Jessica Brazeau, Amanda Brazeau and Kelsey Chicvara won all-around titles. In level 5 for ages 12 and older, Cobb swept the individual events, winning the vault (9.15), the uneven bars (9.575), the beam (9.20) and the floor exercise (9.40) to finish with an all-around score of 37.325.

At level 6 for ages 10-11, Chicvara won the bars (9.85), the beam (9.60) and the floor (9.30) on her way to finishing with an outstanding all-around score of 38.05. At level 6 for 12 and older, Jessica Brazeau won the vault (9.35) and floor (9.675) on her way to an all-around score of 37.75. At level 6 for ages 8-9, Amanda Brazeau won the beam (8.725), floor (9.275) on her way to an all-around score of 36.25.

Other individual champions were: Level 4 - Danielle Moffitt, bars, 9.55. Level 5 - 7-8, Maddison Saarem, bars, 9.75; 9-10, Hannah Winder, vault, 9.025. Level 6 - 10-11, Sarah Steele, beam, 9.60; 8-9, Arel Getty, bars. 9.20. Silver State also had numerous second and third place finishes.
