Carson, Galena athletes compete at Stanford

Carson High seniors George Pincock and Shanna Sparks ran well in their respective events Friday and Saturday at the Stanford Invitational.


Pincock placed eighth in the 400-meter finals with a dash of 50.33 seconds Saturday at Cobb Track & Angell Field. Pincock also won his heat of the 100 Friday in 11.14, one-tenth of a second off the school record set by Javier Vega last year.


Sparks finished seventh in a fast girls 3,000 race on Friday with a time of 10 minutes, 16.66 seconds.


Galena senior Barrett Young won the boys 400-meter intermediate hurdles Saturday with a fast 54.74. Young was also fourth in his heat of the 110 highs in 15.33 on Friday.


Galena's Justin Houk was also second in the high jump at 6-6, Stephen Pottey was fifth in the boys 3,000 in 8:50.77 and Geoff Casazza eighth in the boys mile in 4:20.78.


Also for Carson, Mike Dittenber cleared 6-feet to tie for eighth in the high jump on Saturday and Katie Kotter ran 13.74 in her heat of the girls 100 on Friday.
