Delbert Lee Tanner, 72, a recent Minden resident, died July 31, 2004, in a care center in Ashland, Ore.

He was born and raised in Limon, Colo., and graduated from what is now the University of Northern Colorado in physical education.

Mr. Tanner taught, coached, and was an athletic trainer and the athletic director at various secondary schools, including Dana Hills and Morningside high schools in Southern California. From 1975 to 1979, he was team trainer for the Los Angeles Lakers.

In later years, he moved to Minden and enjoyed his Fjord horses. He was a familiar sight at parades and weddings with his horse-drawn carriages. He enjoyed his cat, Taurus.

Among his survivors are his son, Mike; daughters Kary Tanner Karges and Kathie Tanner Stansbury; several grandchildren; and longtime companion and friend Beth Long.

After cremation, a private service will be held.
