A funeral for Rueben W. Soleta, 83, will be today at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Mr. Soleta died Dec. 30, 2003. He was born Oct. 11, 1920, on a farm near Windom, Minn., to William and Laura Tordson Soleta.

He married Velda L. Weisz on June 8, 1942, in Windom.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from August 1942 to October 1945 during World War II in Europe, earning a European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with five bronze battle stars.

He moved to Mountain Lake, Minn., where he farmed for 10 years.

He moved to South Lake Tahoe in December 1956. He worked in the maintenance department of Harrah's Casino then at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe as assistant engineer, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville and enjoyed traveling around the country in his RV and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Velda, on July 31,1999.

Among his survivors are his children Sandra K. Greenlee and family of Reno, Michael R. of Denver, Richard L. and family of Spokane, Wash., Barbara J. Henderson and family of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Jay W. and family of Gardnerville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Marianne Taber of Bella Vista, Ark.; and aunt, Wilma Walker of Coon Rapids, Minn.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
