Locals dominate swim

The Carson Tigersharks Swim Club continued their tradition of dominating the Lake Berryessa Open Water race held on Saturday near Napa, Calif.

Jamie Engan was the second overall finisher among all male and female swimmers in the one-mile race and led a 1-2-3 finish for the Tigersharks among all female swimmers as Abby Niehoff took second and Tatum Boehnke was third. Kevin Dyer also won the 13-14 boys division for the Tigersharks.

"Again we dominated the swim," Tigershark coach Jim Puleo said. In the four years that the Tigersharks have competed in the event since Puleo has been coach, the team has had the overall female winner each year.

"The girls have always dominated and we've always had a first or second with the guys," Puleo said.

Conditions were virtually perfect as the water temperature was 76 degrees and there was little wind.

Engan finished in 20 minutes, .09 seconds while Niehoff finished in 20:38. Niehoff won the 13-14 girls division and finished eighth overall among male and female swimmers. Boehnke was second in 13-14 girls and 15th overall among male and female swimmers, finishing in 21:55.

Also for the Tigersharks, Barbara Perkins was second in 15-16 girls, fifth among female swimmers and 18th overall after finishing in 22:02. Danielle Judge was 13th among female swimmers and 36th overall and fourth among 15-16 girls after finishing in 23:50.

Caroline Suh was 48th overall and 22nd among female swimmers after finishing in 24:21 in 13-14 girls. Dyer was fifth overall and fourth overall among male swimmers after finishing in 20:16.
