Application for folklife apprenticeships extended

The Nevada Arts Council has extended it's deadline for the Folklife Apprenticeship Grant to 5 p.m. Monday. The grants support master artists to teach apprentices traditional art forms such as quilting, basket weaving, singing, dance, storytelling, ranching arts and many other community, ethnic, and tribally based art forms. UPS stores sponsor Toys for Tots ride


Local UPS stores are kicking off the 2006 Toys for Tots campaign with the "Design Dale's Ride" coloring contest for kids through April 29. Kids can design this year's UPS Store/Toys for Tots No. 88 Ford, which NASCAR legend Dale Jarrett will race this November. Ages 5-12 may submit entries at participating UPS store locations to receive one free color copy of their submission.

State Library hosts 'Altered Landscape' photo exhibit


The Nevada State Library and Archives is now hosting "The Altered Landscape," a touring art exhibit from the Nevada Art's Council's Nevada Touring Initiative Program.


"The Altered Landscape" is a photographic exhibit that documents a movement called "New Topographics," where contemporary photographers examine the interaction between humans and the environment. Call 684-3313 or visit www.NevadaCulture.org.


Blue Star Military Moms support group meets tonight


Blue Star Military Moms, a support group for military families, meets at 6 p.m. tonight at Carson Plaza Retirement, 2120 E. Long St.

Comstock marks Easter with egg hunt, parade


An Easter Egg hunt and Mad Hatter's Easter Parade will be this weekend in Virginia City.


The Great Virginia City Easter Egg Hunt will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Miner's Park for children 10 and under. Each plastic egg will have candy and the name of a Virginia City merchant inside; the child will then go to the store to collect a free prize.


The Mad Hatter's Easter Parade will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Virginia City Jerky Co. on C Street. There will be prizes for the best, biggest and most bodacious bonnets for women and for the best, biggest and most bodacious cowboy hat for men.
