Jessie 'Jim' Fernandez

Jessie "Jim" Fernandez, 67, a nine-year Gardnerville resident, died Aug. 25, 2006, at Carson Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Fernandez was born March 6, 1939, in La Habra, Calif., to Ricardo Fernandez and Dora Aduna.

Mr. Fernandez lived in La Habra from 1939-1997.

He retired from Ralph's Grocery in 1997. He was a shop steward and a member of the Teamsters union during his career with Alpha Beta, Food 4 Less and Ralph's.

Mr. Fernandez enjoyed camping, hunting and volunteering.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Henry.

Among his survivors are his wife of 45 years Kathy Fernandez, of Gardnerville; daughter Darla Fernandez, of Gardnerville, and son and daughter-in-law Todd and Cathie Fernandez, of Reno; granddaughter Alyssa Fernandez; and grandson Tyler Fernandez; sisters Esther Renfro, of Lakewood, Calif.; Connie Gilkerson, of Fullerton, Calif., Marie and brother-in-law Bob Hankins, of Sonora, Calif.; and brother Alfred and sister-in-law Gloria Giglio, of Bellflower, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
