Senator wrestling rolls past Hug

Carson High wrestling coach Tyson Thivierge wasn't in the best of moods despite his team's easy 66-16 win over Hug on Wednesday at CHS.

Thivierge wasn't pleased at all with the way his team wrestled. But Thivierge was also just as concerned that he may have lost his heavyweight wrestler Trent Simpson for the season.

Simpson likely broke his thumb in Wednesday's dual. Thivierge said he's holding out hope that Simpson just dislocated his thumb, but believed more than likely it was broken.

Thivierge also said if Simpson's thumb is broken, it won't require a pin. If it doesn't, then Simpson could return as soon as January. If it does, he could be out for the year. "Hopefully he's a quick healer," Thivierge said.

As far as Wednesday's effort, Thivierge had little positive to say. "We wrestled very sloppy, very slow," he said. "We did not wrestle our match."

Thivierge took responsibility for the lackluster effort. "That can all fall back on me for practice preparation," he said.

"It was bad. I'm not even going to sugar coat it. No excuses. It was a total letdown. We just looked sluggish. It was just a pretty poor performance up and down the lineup. It could have been a lot better."

Thivierge said Kyle Banko (135 pounds), Todd Banko (119) and Travis Lamborn (160) all wrestled relatively well. They all won by pin as did Adam Carmazzi (140), Brett Allen (145) and Stephen Remer (171). Nick Schlager (103), Owen Craugh (112), Brian Halverson (125), Robbie Bozin (130) and Aaron Jolcover (152) all won by forfeit. Carson had 13 of a possible 14 wrestlers as it forfeited the 189 match.

Carson will wrestle in the Stockmans Dual Tournament on Saturday in Fallon. The event will feature mostly 3A schools, but 4A teams Elko, South Tahoe and Fallon will also be at the event. "We're looking for huge improvement," Thivierge said.
