Wendell W. Jones

A Masonic and Elks service for Wendell W. Jones, 80, an 11-year Carson City resident, will be at noon Sunday at FitzHenry's Chapel of Faith. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St.

Mr. Jones died Dec. 11, 2006, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was born June, 12, 1926, in Dallas, Wisc., to Marcus Jones and Blanche Hughes.

He married Dorothy M. Anderson on Nov. 8, 1947, in Pine City, Minn.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Barron, Wisc., along the West Coast in Oregon and California, and in South Lake Tahoe from 1957-76. He split his time between Carson City and Yuma, Ariz.

Mr. Jones was a lifetime member of the California and Nevada carpenters unions, and helped build casinos in South Lake Tahoe.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 during World War II and from 1950-57 as a boatswain mate on the U.S.S. Tortuga.

He was past master of Tahoe Lodge No. 707 F&AM in 1972, and a member of Carson Lodge No. 1 F&AM Carson City, Carson City Elks No. 2177, American Legion Post No. 4 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his 9-year-old son, David, in 1958.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Fred Smith of Carson City and Barbie and Terry Crum of Scotts Valley, Calif.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
