A memorial service for Doug Benson, 62, a 21-year Gardnerville resident, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carson Valley Methodist Church in Gardnerville.
Mr. Benson died Feb. 1, 2006, at home. He was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Goodell, Iowa, to Orville Shahan and Evelyn Miller. He married Linda Manning on May 14, 1990, in Virginia City.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Mammoth Lakes, Calif.
He worked in communications for GTE. He served with the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Judy Winard.
Among his survivors are his wife of Gardnerville; daughter Michelle Benson of Mammoth Lakes; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Louisa Benson of Reno; stepmother Mickie Shahan of Iowa; brother Tony Benson of Lubbock, Texas; two grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.

Capitol City Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
