The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the names of the two people killed in Thursday's rollover accident on Deer Run Road.

Eric Christopher Thompson, 18, of Carson City, and Ashley Mary Lucille Masek, 20, of Carson City were killed in the wreck that happened about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Thompson was the front-seat passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Masek, the back-seat passenger, survived the accident but succumbed to her injuries as paramedics prepared to take her by Care Flight helicopter from the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Billy Joe Thompson, 24, no relation to the passenger, was not injured in the accident.

Thompson told investigators he was traveling about 30 mph in the 25-mph zone when he swerved to avoid a dog in the road. He lost control of the car and drove into the northbound dirt shoulder before losing control and putting the car into a broadside skid, destroying a cement pillar before coming to rest upside down.

Troopers said an investigation into the accident is ongoing and could take several weeks to complete before a final determination is made as to the cause.
