A young woman died in an accident about 3:15 p.m. today when her silver Chevy Cavalier was rear-ended at the intersection of Airport Road and Highway 50, where she was stopped for a red traffic light.

The driver of a white Ford Ranger reportedly did not slow for the light and hit the Cavalier, which spun into the northbound lanes of Airport Road. After striking the car, the Ranger flew through the air and came to rest on the south side of the intersection, according to a witness.

The condition of the driver of the Ranger was taken to the hospital by Care Flight helicopter. She was described as being conscious when taken from the scene.
