Joseph G. "Joe" Ierien, 75, a 10-year Gold Hill resident, died July 23, 2006, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Ierien was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Minnesota to Fredrick J. Ierien and Kathrynn Lamphere.

He married Joel Nelson on Feb. 19, 1995, in Virginia City.

Mr. Ierien lived in Carson City from 1974 to 1996.

He was a graduate from Fergus Falls High School in Minnesota. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Pepperdine College.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 28 years, reaching the rank of chief warrant officer, third class.

He belonged to the USS St. Paul destroyer crew organization, and enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Among his survivors are his wife; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and CiCi Ierien of Lake Tahoe; daughter and son-in-law Kathrynn and Jim Quilici of Carson City; daughter Jacquelin Ierien of Las Vegas; two stepchildren, two grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Guest Home, 880 Locus St., Reno, NV 89502.
