The AARP Driver Safety program will meet from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Carson City Senior Center. The class will meet at the Dayton Senior Center from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 18. Call 786-3509 to register for the above classes.


The Douglas County Senior Center class will meet from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday at the center. Call 783-6455. On Aug. 26, there will be a class at Carson Valley Medical Center from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Call 782-1512 for information or to register.

Landscape show at BAC


The Nevada Artists Association is featuring a landscape show through Aug. 12 at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St. 26 area artists have painted their pictures of the Carson River using the same photograph. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except for Sunday. Call 882-6411.




Carson River panel meets Wednesday


The Carson River Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Members are expected to make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on priorities for Question 1 grants.




Open Space Advisory Committee to meet


The Open Space Advisory Committee will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bonanza Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Members are expected to recommend potential dispositions and acquisitions of land within such areas as the Carson Range, Virginia Range and Carson River.




Applications for Shade Tree Council being accepted


Applications from persons interested in serving on the Shade Tree Council are currently being accepted by the Carson City Board of Supervisors. There is one volunteer position open. The term expires January 2008. There is a minimum commitment of 10 hours a month and there is no compensation. Applications may be obtained from, and returned to, the Carson City Executive Offices, 201 N. Carson St. No. 2. Applications are accepted until Aug. 15. Call 887-2100.




Concert to provide low-income children with school supplies


There will be an evening of music with Wild Sage from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Library. This benefit concert is sponsored by the library and supports Preparing for Student Achievement with School Supplies, or PASS. Admission is free but a donation of school supplies or money for PASS is suggested. All supplies will be distributed anonymously to low-income children by PASS through Carson City schools at the beginning of the school year. Call 887-2244.




Douglas County


Douglas County Democratic Women to meet


Douglas County Democratic Women will hold their monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the Carson Valley Inn, Minden. A buffet lunch will be served at noon. Cost is $15 per person if reserved by Thursday and $18 at the door.
