A memorial service for John William Liggett, 67, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene, 1788 Pinenut Road, in Gardnerville. Another service will be 2 p.m. May 12 at the home of Lou and Caroly Morales, 1921 Cascades Court, Oxnard, Calif.

Mr. Liggett died April 28, 2006, at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.

He was born Feb. 9, 1939, in Santa Monica, Calif., to John Leroy Liggett and Louise Mae Steeb.

He married Trini on May 20, 1989, in Bullhead City, Ariz.

Mr. Liggett was a retired member of the Operating Engineers.

He served in the U.S. Navy at the CBC Naval Base in Port Hueneme for 27 years.

He enjoyed cars, drag racing, building and exhibiting, golf, RV travel, kayaking, motorcycle riding, car restoration, trading vintage cars and weekend barbecues with his family.

Among his survivors are his wife; sons and daughters-in-law John and Janet Liggett, Dan and Cindy Liggett, Bill and Bridget Liggett, Nelson and Lissa Varela, and Michael and Herky Wade; sons Brett and Darin Kimmel; daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl and Russ Lovell and Lesley Ann and John Soloman; daughter Leslie McCampbell; sister and brother-in-law Vicki and Ron Martinez; sister Fran Rankin; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous extended-family members.

Family Options Funeral and Tribute Service at Lake Tahoe is in charge of arrangements.
