Edward Calvin 'Bud' Harris Jr.

A funeral service for Edward Calvin "Bud" Harris Jr., 72, a lifelong Nevada resident, will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Mahogany Drive Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Minden, with Bishop David Haws officiating. Burial will take place at the East Side Memorial Park following the service.

Mr. Harris died Nov. 26, 2006, at his home in Indian Hills, of complications from cancer and lymphoma. He was born June 26, 1934, in McGill, to Edward Calvin "Cal" Harris and Lula Mae Arnoldsen Harris.

He graduated from White Pine High School in 1953.

He married his high school girlfriend, Norma Lee Mangum, on June 27, 1953, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in McGill.

He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War.

His 30-year career in law enforcement covered the White Pine County Sheriff's Office, the Nevada Highway Patrol, the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, and the Nevada State Gaming Control Board. After a brief retirement, he worked as a gaming security officer at the Ormsby House, and in maintenance at Highland Manor Apartments. He was a past bishop of the Carson Valley First Ward.

He enjoyed singing, giving hugs, helping with projects that served the community, humor, fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, and visiting family and friends.

He was preceded in death by brother George Harris.

Among his survivors are his wife; daughters and sons-in-law Brenda and Samuel Crowley of Minden and Tracey and Robert Law of Quincy, Wash.; son, Kirk Edward Harris of Indian Hills; sisters and brothers-in-law Phyllis and Jack Detomasi, Dora and Burnell Stark of Fallon, and Rayola and Gary Webb of Ely; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
