Wine and Bloody Marys will be flowing at the newest wine bar in downtown Carson City today for Nevada Day.

Under renovation for a year, D'Vine Wine Tasting on North Stewart Street will have an open house for Nevada Day featuring a free wine tasting, entertainment and a $4 soup bar.

"The timing happened to be right to open on Nevada Day and show Carson City our new establishment," said co-owner Chris Donner. He operates the bar and bistro with his wife, Kim, and father, Gene.

Kim Donner said the inspiration for the business came from their love of wine, but they're learning as they go.

"We're not wine experts, but we're getting there," she said.

Because Carson City has few hot spots that are open late, the Donners' idea was to keep hours until 9 p.m., but then stay open if needed.

"The inspiration is to provide a nice, upscale establishment, smoke free and gaming free in Carson City," said Chris Donner. "In our opinion, there's not that many places here like that."

They've invested about $1 million to make D'Vine Wine distinct, from the laminate floor to the oak cabinetry. The leather chairs are grouped around mahogany tables. Wine bottles are showcased in oak cabinets behind a granite bar top. The wine list includes 100 different brands ranging in price from $10 to the $400 bottle of ZD Abacus 2003 Cabernet.

The contractor was Custom Design Builders, of Carson City. Hannafin Design Associates designed the architectural plans. The Donners purchased 200 N. Stewart St. for $436,000 in July 2005, according to assessor records.

D'Vine Wine's regular hours will be 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. daily starting Nov. 6. The soup and salad bar will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. The Italian meat and cheese appetizer menu opens at 2 p.m. Prices range from $5 to $25 for the deluxe cheese platter.
