Finally, the summer heat is starting to break and area runners have a selection of interesting autumn fun runs coming up.

Interesting?

For starters, there's the Run With Robey event today at Empire Ranch Golf, an event that will include a 5-kilometer run and walk as well as a bench press competition, all set for an 8 a.m. start.

The event is being hosted by the committee for the re-election of Justice of the Peace Robey Willis.

On Sunday, the Trails and Tails for runners and walkers (as well as their dogs) returns to Spooner Lake. The event will feature 5- and 10K runs, in addition to a 2-mile walk, starting at 9:30 a.m. from the Lake Tahoe State Park campground at Spooner Lake. Late registration will open at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. A half-mile kids run will be held for participants 10-and-under.

Entrants are invited to bring their dogs, though leashes are mandatory.

The registration fee is $30, with proceeds going to benefit The Yerington Animal Protection Society for its low cost spay and neuter program.

Looking ahead, a full schedule of events are lined up for Lake Tahoe Marathon Week on Sept. 27-Oct. 1. A three-stage marathon (26.2 miles on three successive days) starts on Thursday, Sept. 28 and finishes on Saturday, Sept. 30. The regular 11th annual Lake Tahoe Marathon will be run on Saturday, along with a half-marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 72-mile ultramarathon around the lake. If that's not enough, a 5K run/walk and kids races will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1. And kicking off the week's activities on Sept. 27 will be an extreme golf event at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course - a 4K run/18 holes of golf (while carrying three clubs of your choice).
