Unlike in the past, the Carson High girls soccer team actually had to work a little bit for its 6-0 win at Hug on Tuesday.

TheHawks are not the pushover they've been in the past and were coming off a win over North Valleys.

"They played really well," said Carson coach Randy Roser about Hug. "It wasn't a complete walk through like in the past. They're keeper is really good."

Carson (1-2-1, 1-0-1) outshot Hug 21-5 for the game, but had to settle for a 2-0 halftime lead after scoring twice in the first eight minutes. Kayla Sanchez scored off of an assist from Brandi Vega and Vega scored off of a rebound.

In the second half, Vega scored on assist from Taylor Musselman, Danielle Moos scored on assist from Sanchez and scored again on an assist by Amanda Osborne, Rebecca Kane scored off of an assist by Musselman.

Jennifer Johnson had two saves in the first half and Carly Mathat had three saves in the second half. Mathat also had a save on a penalty kick.

Roser said his team continues to meet its goal of continued improvement. Among the younger players he singled out were Lauren Schulz, Brenda Luquin, Allie Collier and Helaine Harris. "Those girls are really stepping up," Roser said. "It was a good match for us."

Carson will next play at home in a doubleheader with the CHS boys against Damonte Ranch. The games are set for 5 and 7 p.m.
