The 2006 rifle, buck and antlerless, mule deer hunting seasons open Saturday, Oct. 7 for many of the big game management areas in the State of Nevada.

Those areas are primarily in the eastern, northeastern and central portions of the state.

Most of those areas will close on Sunday, Nov. 5.

However, big game management areas in the western portion of the state will not open until Saturday, Nov. 4. They will close on Sunday, Dec. 3.

Those late-opening, western areas include management area Nos. 192 (south of U.S. 50 and west of U.S. 395), 195 (The Virginia City area), 194-196 (west of Carson City and Reno) and 291 (the Pinenut Mountains area east of Carson City, which surround Carson City.

Be advised that only those hunters with deer hunting tags received through the computerized drawing process, earlier this year, are permitted to hunt.

There are a total of 9,229 rifle tags for residents and 622 for Non-Residents.
