A memorial service for Gene Savery Minor, 80, a 57-year Dayton resident will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Dayton. A reception will follow the service at the Dayton Community Center.

Mr. Minor died July 28, 2007, in Dayton. He was born June 20, 1927, to George Ford Minor and Adeline E. Minor, in Reno. Before moving to Dayton he lived in Reno.

He married Delphine Spaletta on June 27, 1948, in Reno. He graduated from Reno High School and attended Humboldt State University. He worked the family's fifth generation Nevada cattle ranch.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and for 18 years on the Lyon County School Board. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and wildlife management and started the first pheasant hunting preserve in Nevada.

Among his survivors are his wife of 59 years; sons and daughters-in-law Steve and Gretchen Minor, Thomas and Shaun Minor; daughters Carolyn Lewton, Julie Sutich, Dr. Mary Minor and numerous grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gene Minor Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Funeral Home. A burial and memorial at Dayton Cemetery will be at a later date.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
