Carson City


Interactive comic wedding coming


Wild Horse Theater Company will present the Northern Nevada premiere of "Joey and Maria's Comedy Italian Wedding," an original interactive dinner theater hit, at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center


The Gnocchi and Cavatelli families stage an Italian wedding and reception with family secret.


Tickets are $49.50, including the ceremony, followed by an all-you-can-eat Italian buffet dinner and reception.


The evening includes a champagne toast to the "happy couple," wedding cake, dancing, singing and celebrating. A cash bar is available.


"Joey and Maria's Comedy Italian Wedding" will be held at The Plaza Hotel and Conference Center, 801 S. Carson St., Friday, Saturday and June 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23. Doors open at 6:30, and the ceremony begins at 7 p.m. Matinees will be Sunday and June 24. Doors open at 2 p.m., and he ceremony begins at 2:30.

Carson Symphony offers 'Pops Concert'


The Carson City Symphony presents the 23rd annual "Pops Party" concert Sunday at 4 p.m. on the back lawn of the Governor's Mansion.


The program features the symphony, Carson Chamber Singers and guest soloist vocalist CeCe Gable.


The symphony's "Strings in the Schools" youth orchestra will make a special appearance. Admission is free.


The symphony, directed by David Bugli, will play movie music, show tunes, marches and more. A highlight of the show will be the world premier of Tom Delaney's arrangements for Gable of "Little Did I Dream" by Dave Frishberg and Johnny Mandel, and "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To" by Cole Porter.


The program also includes the premiere of Bugli's arrangements of Scott Joplin's "Bethena Waltz," and for Gable, "Like a Lover (O Cantador)."


The Carson Chamber Singers, directed by Judy Monson, will sing several selections, including "Three American Lyrics" by John Rutter.


The "Strings in the Schools" youth orchestra, directed by Symphony concertmaster Sue Kitts, will play a set of fiddle tunes including "Swallowtail," "Bile Them Cabbage Down" and "Cooley's Reel."


Seating is on the lawn. The audience is welcome to bring blankets (some chairs will be provided) and food. Snacks and beverages will be on sale before and during the concert. Proceeds from raffle and food sales benefit the Carson City Symphony Association.


In case of rain, the concert will be held indoors at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.

Virginia City


danceSpirit plans wine-tasting event


The danceSpirit Performing Arts and Piper's Opera House announce an evening of wine tasting and entertainment Saturday at 6 p.m.


Several wineries and distributors from the area will present a variety of wines created in the Northern Nevada area.


Entertainment will be provided by the Stars Performance Dance Company from danceSpirit in Carson City.


Master of ceremonies will be John Tyson.


Profits from the event will aid danceSpirit Performing Arts in funding its yearly Christmas Show: "Ebenezer Scrooge - JAZZ'D UP LIKE THE DICKENS!" and will support the efforts of the Opera House to maintain and operate the historic landmark.


Tickets are $30 before the event and $35 at the door, and may be purchased by calling danceSpirit at 884-1066.




Lake Tahoe


Rock art, rock music at Stateline Hard Rock Cafe


Ancient rock art and modern rock music will be offered together at the "Rock Stars at Tahoe" free concert and slide show event at 6 to 8 p.m. June 5 at the Hard Rock Café, Stateline.


Local musicians Monique DeHaviland, Wesley Orsolic and Liz Broscoe will perform, alternating with slides and discussion by archaeologists Alanah Woody, executive director of the Nevada Rock Art Foundation; and Angus R. Quinlan, NRAF deputy director, exploring some of Nevada's beautiful and mysterious petroglyphs and pictographs.

Hard Rock Café is inside Harvey's Lake Tahoe Casino.
