Man stabbed after allegedly striking assailant with flashlight

A Carson City man was in custody Monday after allegedly stabbing his brother's former boss following a dispute over a tool box.

Eduardo Juarez Leon, 38, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon, battery causing substantial bodily harm and attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

According to Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Earl Mays, Rick Haskell, 52, owner of R & H Automotive was at his business in the 2000 block of Highway 50 East when Leon and a woman came to collect a tool box that belonged to Leon's brother who had worked for Haskell recently.

An argument broke out between Leon and Haskell and a witness in a nearby homeless encampment told police he saw Haskell hit Leon in the head with a flashlight.

The man then saw Leon punch Haskell and run off into the brush, according to police reports.

When officers arrived, Haskell was lying next to the motor home he lives in behind his business, suffering from a gaping stab wound to his left side, said Deputy Charles Stetler.

Haskell was taken by helicopter to a Reno hospital. His condition was not available Monday.

Leon was found about 5:30 a.m. Monday at a home on Milliman Way. He was transported to the hospital for stitches to close a wound from the flashlight blow, and then booked into jail.

Bail was set at $75,000.
