M. Jeanne Johnston, 76, a Carson City resident, passed away Dec. 19, 2008 at Evergreen Care Center. She was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Poteet, Texas to James and Carrie (Selby) Barrow.

She had previously lived in the Gardnerville/Minden area for 20 years coming from Los Angeles, Calif. Jeanne married Walter E. Johnston May 16, 1970 in Los Angeles. She worked there as a waitress for 22 years before moving to Nevada.

Jeanne was a member of the Women's Society at St. Gall Catholic Church, and a representative for WNCC Douglas Campus. She enjoyed bowling, golf and going to the pool.

Among her survivors are many loving relatives; her husband, Walter E. Johnston of Carson City; sons Jim Proell of Vietnam, Steven Proell of Sonoma, Calif., and Ed Krieger of Marino Valley, Calif.; daughters Rae Jean Lash of Las Vegas, Karen Cowan of Sammamish, Wash., and Kathy Blazer of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and sisters Bertha Millette of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kathy Radford of Van Nuys, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her son Phil Proell; four brothers Jim, Edwin, John and Marvin; and six sisters Mary, Carol, Marva, Hazel, Norma Faye and Evelyn.

A memorial service will be1 p.m., Saturday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City. Inurnment will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.
