The Nevada Department of Transportation reports at 6:30 a.m. the following road controls in Northern Nevada and Northern California:

Highway 395 " High wind advisory in Washoe Valley; campers and trailers are not advised.

Highway 50 " Snow tires or chains required fro 18 miles between the California state line and 3.3 miles west of US 395 in south Carson City.

Interstate 80 " Snow tires or chains required for 24 miles between Truckee, Calif. and 0.6 miles west of Garson Road. Chains mandatory for 13.5 miles between Kingvale, Calif. and Truckee.

SR 28 " Snow tires or chains required between Highway 50 and 9 miles south of the California state line.

SR 88 " Chains mandatory fro 43 miles between Hams Station, Calif. and 1.1 miles west of Woodfords.

SR 89 " Chains mandatory for 23.4 miles between 2.8 miles north of Highway 50 and SR 28 at Tahoe City. Snow tires or chains required for 28.4 miles between SR 28 at Tahoe City and 15 miles north of Truckee. Chains mandatory for 16 miles between 15 miles north of Truckee and 7 miles north of Calpine.

SR 431 " Snow tires or chains required for 17 miles between SR 28 and 7.5 miles south of Highway 395.

Today's weather includes a high wind warning and winter storm warning in effect until 3 p.m.

Strong winds and area of blowing dust in the morning with rain, then rain and snow in the afternoon, heavy at times with snow level at 6000 feet falling to 5000 feet late. Snow accumulation up to 2 inches and south winds 30-50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph " local gusts to 100 mph this morning " decreasing to 30-40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight, breezy with heavy rain and snow, then snow after midnight with accumulation of 5-10 inches with 8-14 inches above 5000 feet, and southwest winds 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
