The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is requesting the assistance of volunteers to help with its annual planting of trout in Ash Canyon Creek, this afternoon, July 10.

Ash Canyon Creek is west of Carson City, and is planted once a year with rainbow or brook trout.

This year, the fish planting will consist of about 300-350 rainbow trout.

Anyone interested in helping is asked to meet in the parking lot near McDonalds at the old K-Mart Shopping Center on the north end of Carson St. at 5 p.m.

Volunteers are requested to wear work clothing and sturdy shoes or boots.

They will need to be prepared to work in teams of two to carry a heavy metal can full of water and fish for about 400 yards down a steep ridge to the creek.

The entire planting process today should only take about two hours.

For information, call NDOW Fisheries Biologist Matt Maples at 688-1677.
