Dayton man killed in Washoe valley accident

A Dayton man was killed and his son was among two others injured in an accident Friday morning in Washoe Valley.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper James S. Farmer, Gordon Brundle, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:43 a.m. accident just north of the Bellevue Bridge.

Brundle's 1992 Honda Accord ran into the back of a flatbed trailer being pulled by a northbound van driven by Elroy Buz Devoll, 55, of Carson City.

Farmer said it appears that Brundle was unaware of the speed of the van when he slammed into the rear its 24-foot trailer carrying a hoist.

The impact sent the Honda underneath the trailer, Farmer said. Brundle was killed instantly.

His son, Andrew Brundle, 25, and Bailey Collins, 17, were both in the back seat and were injured. They were taken from the scene by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

Farmer said Andrew Brundle sustained serious injuries. He described Collins' injuries as moderate. He said the trio were on their way to work in Reno when the accident happened.

Devoll and the two passengers in his van were uninjured.

Farmer said Devoll was unaware of the accident and only stopped his van because he thought he had a flat tire.

The accident closed down one lane of northbound traffic for about three hours.
