Juanita A. Phalen, 72, of Carson City passed away Sept. 4, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born June 1, 1936 in Colorado Springs, Colo. to Charles and Phoebe DeLong.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Amanda.

She is survived by her loving children Joseph, Bob (Daphne), Katherine (Dave), sister Bonnie (Ted) and grandchildren Jennifer, Patrick, William, Kyle and Nathan.

Juanita grew up in Placerville, Calif., graduating from El Dorado County High School. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, she returned to the Placerville area where she retired as a county employee, having worked 27 years for El Dorado and Nevada Counties. She spent over 30 years as a volunteer and mentor for many others who became dear friends. Juanita's greatest enjoyments included her family, camping, gardening,

reading and listening to opera. After retirement, she added Jake, a playful cairn terrier to the mix.

She will be missed by all that she touched with her life.

Interment will be in Kelsey District Cemetery in a private ceremony. A celebration of Juanita's life will be held in Grass Valley, Calif. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada, 18653 Wedge Parkway, Reno, Nevada, 89511, and the Carson-Tahoe Cancer Resource Center, P.O. Box 2168, Carson City, Nevada, 89702.
