Arts Council to distribute money:

The Nevada Arts Council will distribute $250,500 in federal stimulus funding as one-time grants.

The money is designed to help preserve critical staff and contracted artists and to sustain arts programming in Nevada.

The state will take online applications for the grants from eligible applicants. Those eligible are grant recipients within the past two fiscal years who have submitted an approved final report package by May 30. Grantees can get up to $10,000 each.

A June public hearing will be held to review all applications with awards planned in July.

Museum hosts nature writing workshop:

The Nevada State Museum is hosting a writing workshop for those interested in nature and the environment.

The hour-long workshop will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28 in the Nevada State Museum on Carson Street.

The workshop will be conducted by Virginia City poet Shaun Griffin and is entitled Learning to Pay Attention: Writing from the Environment. He is the author of numerous poetry collections honoring the west's cultures and landscapes. His most recent book is Woodsmoke, Wind and the Peregrine, published by Black Rock Press in 2008.

Nevada's Division of Environmental Protection has set up a Web site to provide a variety of recycling information to celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday.

NevadaRecycles.com offers teaching tools, recycling locations, guides, grant programs and the latest Nevada recycling statistics.
