130 YEARS AGO

Bartholomew was a young Carson boy with yearnings after the beautiful and true. His genius took a decorative bent when he painted a kitten with blue, green and brown stripes. When the cat walked the yard the mother repudiated it and the hens chased it into a plum tree. The dog Abe finally saw it and ate it, but the paint made him sick for some three days. Now he is terrified of cats of all descriptions.

100 YEARS AGO

An editor died and slowly wandered his way to where he supposed a warm welcome awaited him. The devil said: "For many years thou hast borne the blame for the many errors the printers made in the paper. Men have taken the paper without paying, and cursed ye for not getting out a better one. Thou canst not come in here." He was fired. "Heaven is his home, and besides, if we let him come in here he will continually dun delinquent subscribers for our habitation is full of them, and thus create disorder in my kingdom."

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Clark J. Guild of Carson City is among the outstanding needlewomen of America who are exhibiting this week at the national crochet contest.

50 YEARS AGO

Santa Claus will arrive in Carson City on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. and will greet children on the steps of the post office. Santa's trusty steed will be the old reliable Warren fire engine.

20 YEARS AGO

Nine wild horses from the Pine Nut herd will be moved to the Palomino Wild Horse Placement Center north of Sparks. The horses were moved despite efforts of the Commission for the Preservation of Wild Horses to allow the animals to remain in Pine Nut.

10 YEARS AGO

Local chamber members can sign up with a national electronic recruiting service at discount rates, but $21,000 is needed to set up a community Internet Web page.
