Marvin "Gene" Ditmars, 90, passed away Dec. 6, 2009, in Carson City. Gene was born Aug. 28, 1919, in Paris, Mo. to Charles and Margaret Ditmars.

Gene was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Gene worked as a unit operator for Union Oil for 34 years in Wilmington, Calif. He enjoyed gardening, playing golf, and bowling. He also enjoyed going to the horse races. He and his wife Audrey moved to Minden in 1992 from Long Beach, Calif. He is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville.

Gene will be dearly missed by his wife, Audrey of Minden. They were married June 6, 1964.

He also leaves behind sons, Kerry Ditmars of Arizona, Steve Ditmars and his wife, Barbi of Long Beach, Calif.; daughter, Jeanne Cartwright of Mound House, stepson Roger Hollis of Eugene, Ore.; and stepdaughter Vicki Hallam of Winnemucca; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A Memorial service for Gene will be 11 a.m., Friday, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Gene's honor to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1480 Douglas Ave. Gardnerville or the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of final arrangements.
