Carson wrestlers pin Bishop Manogue

RENO - Carson High's wrestling team improved to 2-0 with an easy 60-15 win over Bishop Manogue in a Sierra League battle Wednesday night.

Carson is 2-0 in league and 6-0 overall heading into this weekend's Elk Grove Tournament.

The Senators won four matches by forfeits, giving them 24 free points.

Austin Brown (119), Ty Welch (130), Nick Schlager (135) and Nicolas Garcia (152) all posted pins.

Luke Carter (189) won by injury default.

The highlight of the match came at 171 pounds when Carson's Junior Valladares beat defending state champ Gary Albright 3-2.

The match was scoreless after the first period, but Albright went ahead 1-0 after two.

The match was tied at 2 when Valladares was awarded a point on a technical violation with eight seconds remaining.

"Junior was in on Albright's legs," Carson coach Tim McCarthy said. "Albright intentionally went off the mat."

Justin Otero made his varsity debut at 145 pounds and won a 14-13 decision.

BOYS BASKETBALL

INCLINE 61, DAYTON 34

After being forced to cancel practice the last two days because of snow, the Dust Devils suffered their first loss of the season (3-1).

"We came out lethargic, plus Incline is an extremely good team," Dayton first-year coach Jason Santos said.

Adan Gomez led Dayton with 10 points, while Jake Koch and Chris Sikora had nine points each.

The Dust Devils will play in the Lovelock tournament, which begins Friday.
