Obituary: Dexiy Davis Simms Griffin

Dexiy Davis Simms Griffin passed away suddenly Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at the age of 89. She was born in Cleveland, Utah, to Olive May Oviatt and Ernest Davis and was one of nine brothers and sisters.

Dexiy moved from Utah to Northern California in the early 1960s where she was preceded in death by her first husband Walter Simms.

She was also preceded in death by her second husband Sam Griffin, son William Simms and daughter Trula Dunn.

Dexiy loved crocheting, quilting, painting, doll making and craft making with her son William. She was a photographer by trade and took many beautiful portraits as well as wedding photographs.

She ran the Sunnie Photography Studios with her first husband Walter in the Utah area in the 1940s and 1960s. She moved to the Northern California area in the early 1960s where she was co-proprietor of DeJae' Photographers of Concord, Calif., from the 1960s to the 1980s.

She was active in Eastern Star and many other organizations in her life. Later she became active in cards with a close group of ladies in the Carson area and loved going to the senior center and staying very active until her untimely death.

Dexiy relocated to Carson City in 2000 to be near her granddaughter Carrie Simms Krupp (Larry Krupp) and great-grandchildren Kendra and Logan Krupp. She is also survived by brother Vernon Davis (Delone) of Utah, sister Carol Pilling (Doug) of Wyoming, son Paul Simms, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She will be missed dearly. Cremation services are being handled by Autumn Funerals & Cremations in Carson City. A celebration of life and service will be held in February in Carson City through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which Dexiy was a member of the Clear Creek Ward.
