Carson High's boys' ski team overcame a 19-point deficit to overtake Galena and grab second place at the NIAA Regionals at Mt. Rose.

"Every member of the team stepped it up big time," CHS coach Adrienne Gabriel. "I'm so proud of them."

Reno placed first with 895 points, 39 points ahead of Carson. Galena was next with 831.

Skylar Van Rensselaer led the team with a seventh-place giant slalom finish time of 27:45.

Spencer Brinson placed eighth in 27:89, Taylor Phillips 12th 28:49, Clay Hollett 19th 29:28 and Nate Eng 27th 30.38.

Brinson also placed third overall in the individual combined division.

"The boys team just has a passion for skiing," said Gabriel, whose squad will compete Tuesday and Wednesday in state.

The girls' team moved up a spot placing fifth. Kat Fulwider made a strong showing by placing fifth with a 33.22 in the giant slalom.

Danielle Beasom finished 28th 40:26, Hannah Shaw 32nd 41:22, Emily Field 36th 41:94 and Becca Robertson 45th 43:05.

Gabriel said numbers make it hard for the girls to compete because they lack numbers.
