VIRGINIA CITY AND MONLIGHT RIDES

I am a huge Tom Petty fan and this event by name alone received my attention. Who wouldn't want to take a moonlight ride. The Virginia City V & T trip begins with dinner and boarding the old train in the station on F Street in Virginia City. The train heads to Gold Hill and stops for drinks at Maynard Station or Gold Hill bars and then returns to Virginia City in time for the fireworks show celebrating the birthday of America. Of course you can come up early and watch the traditional Fourth of July Parade and festivities that start at noon down C Street

And one of my favorite bands from the Taste is playing live music at the Red Dog Saloon. Road Daddy will be there from 8 p.m.-1 a.m.

WHO: Train Depot and Virginia City

WHAT: Fourth od July Parade and Moonlight Rides

WHERE: V&T Depot in Virginia City

WHEN: 7:30 p.m.

COST: $34 adults, $20 youth age 12 and younger. Advance ticket purchase is recommended.

RED, WHITE AND TAHOE BLUE - CHECK OUT THE LAKE EVENTS

The festivities at the Lake are not only patriotic but if you have a pooch that is cute, enter it in the annual dress-up doggie contest. Incline Village's celebration, scheduled Thursday through Saturday, is called Red, White and Tahoe Blue and includes a parade, dress-up-doggie contest, opening ceremonies, ice cream social, patriotic chalk-drawing contest and, saving the best for last, a rubber ducky race. If you want to see fireworks check out Kings Beach on Friday. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. There's also a Viewing Party at the North Tahoe Event Center, right on the water in Kings Beach. For just $10, attendees get entry to front row fireworks, live music and dancing, along with a no-host bar and food available for purchase throughout the evening.

The party continues with Red, White and TOCCATA Tahoe Blue. The Orchestra and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe Area is kicking off its Big Blue Music Fest with a celebration of American composers. The performance is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at the Squaw Valley Chapel in Olympic Valley and will feature spirituals, Broadway, pop and folk tunes. The festivities culminate with Fourth of July Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. July 4, at Incline Beach.

NEXT WEEK: Brewery Art Center Presents Children's Art Enrichment for age's 5-12 arts, crafts and pottery classes and Local Dance classes available for all.
