Captured by Indians: The Silver State contains the account of a lad, apparently 16 years of age, in town yesterday. He says when he was 10 years old he was taken prisoner by Indians in Texas or New Mexico. The first winter he lived with the Indians his feet were frozen so badly that he lost his toes. He speaks English and Spanish imperfectly, and says he speaks several Indian dialects fluently.

100 years ago

The city trustees and promotion association will get together and arrange for a clean-up day in Carson City. The Appeal joins in the idea as it has just paid a drayman a lot of money for hauling away a lot of junk that has reposed in and about the building for something like 48 years.

50 years ago

A new capitol mail system has been implemented in time for the July 4th holiday according to Ed Kruse, state superintendent of buildings and grounds. Elimination of postage on inter-office correspondence and elimination of several stages in mail delivery are two points of the new system.

The Nevada Division of State Parks has published a schedule of planned activities for the summer and fall, 1989. One of the tours coming up is to the site of Sutro Tunnel in Dayton.
