Carson rolls into District 1 semifinals

The Carson City Little League 9-10 all-star team doesn't show any signs of slowing down.

Carson chalked up its fifth straight post-season win, hammering Reno American West 15-0 Thursday night at Governors Field.

The game was stopped after four innings because of the 10-run rule. It's the fourth time in five games that Carson has won via the run rule. Carson has now outscored opponents 74-9.

The win sends Carson into a semifinal matchup today at 7 p.m. against Carson Valley, a 9-5 winner over Sparks Centennial. The winner of that game moves into Saturday's final.

Head coach Mike Fettic said Wednesday's 12-6 win showed his young team that it couldn't take anything or anybody for granted.

"After last night's (Wednesday's) drawn-out game, this was a good game for the boys," Fettic said. "We got in a little battle (on Wednesday) we shouldn't have. That helped so much. It showed they can't just throw their gloves on the field.

"Carson Valley is a pretty good little team. I think we'll have our hands full. We're not going to take anybody lightly. We're going to come, play hard and win if we can. I can't help but be proud of the kids. They all have great attitudes."

There certainly was a different mindset. Instead of scoring quick and holding on, Carson showed killer instinct offensively from the outset, scoring three in the first, three in the second and eight in the third. It actually could have been worse. Carson left the bases loaded in its first two at-bats, left two on in the third and three on in the fourth.

Bryce Moyle reached second on an error and scored on Jayden DeJoseph's double. DeJoseph moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Jace Keema's infield out. Kyle Krebs hit a two-out double and scored on a single by Tez Allen. Jessie Lopez and Abel Carter reached base, but Reno worked out of the jam.

That proved to be the only scores that Keema needed. The Carson right-hander worked the first three innings, allowing one hit and striking out five in a 35-pitch effort, which means he can come back for the finals if Carson makes it that far.

"I have another game in him," Fettic said. "At the end of the tournament I can use him if I need to. He's my only ineligible pitcher tonight (Friday)."

Carson's bats weren't through, however.

Simms' two-run single was the big blow in the second as Carson expanded its lead to 6-0. In the eight-run third that made it 14-0, Simms delivered another two-RBI hit and Moyle drove in two with a single and one with a bases-loaded walk. Kyle Krebs also contributed an RBI.

DeJoseph led the 15-hit attack with a double and three singles, while Krebs added three hits. Keema, Moyle and Simms added two hits each.

Fettic wouldn't divulge his starting pitcher for the Carson Valley game, but the likely candidates are Simms, Krebs, Allen, Lopez or DeJoseph, who only threw 19 pitches in his lone inning of work and is eligibe to come back today.
