Sutro Tunnel is considered for atomic reactor - The Atomic Energy Commission is considering construction of a linear accelerator to be used as a tool in advancing the understanding of high energy physics. Scientists had planned to construct the linear accelerator at Stanford university, but Senator Alan Bible suggested that the Sutro Tunnel be considered.
