Stimulus loan helps company purchase property

Plumas Bank and the Nevada State Development Corporation announced this week the funding of a commercial real estate loan earlier this month. This is first SBA 504 commercial real estate loan in Northern Nevada to take advantage of the new U.S. Stimulus Package under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The new U.S. Stimulus Package, in an effort to encourage small business borrowing and stimulate the economy, provided beneficial changes to the SBA 504 loan program. The new changes to the SBA 504 loan program reduce the borrower's origination fees by nearly 2 percent of the loan amount. This reduction in origination fees along with the current SBA Debenture rate of 5.20 percent fixed for 20 years, provide assistance to small businesses looking to acquire their own business real estate.

Jeffrey Turnipseed, Barrett Donovan, and Matt Rasmussen, co-owners of Tectonics Design Group in Reno, were excited to have the opportunity to purchase this commercial property for their business.

For more information on commercial real estate loans for businesses, contact either Plumas Bank's Nate Stehura at 786-0907 or Brian Wallace at the Nevada State Development Corporation at 770-1205.

NV Energy meets renewable energy standard

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada announced Wednesday that for the first time, NV Energy Company has met its requirement that a prescribed portion of its load be generated using renewable means.

The PUC said both of the company's subsidiaries in northern Nevada (formerly Sierra Pacific Power Company) and southern Nevada (formerly Nevada Power Company) were in full compliance with a law passed in 2001 that requires the utilities to use mandated percentages of solar, geothermal and other renewable sources to generate electricity.

The utilities reported to the Commission that in 2008, they both generated nine percent of their load using renewable methods. That equates to approximately 2.7 million megawatt hours.

Nevada's Renewable Portfolio Standard was one of the first laws in the nation that required utilities to include renewable sources of energy in their generation mix. The Nevada utilities have had difficulty meeting the standard in years past because they could not purchase sufficient renewable sources, or they could not build their own sources in time to meet the law.

The law requires the utilities to add increasing levels of renewables to their portfolios until they reach a minimum of 20 percent in 2015. There are proposals currently pending in the Legislature that would push that percentage even higher.

Nevada's foreclosure rate leads nation

A first-quarter foreclosure study by RealtyTrac says 41,296 Nevada properties received a foreclosure filing, an increase of 19 percent from the previous quarter and a rise of nearly 111 percent from year-earlier figures.

One in 27 homes in the state was in the foreclosure process, five times the national average. In Washoe County, 2,273 properties were in default, 2,586 are bank-owned, and another 1,116 are being sold at auction.

Washoe law library offers online foreclosure information
