Obituary: Marilyn Rhoades Edmunds

Marilyn Rhoades Edmunds, 93, passed away on November 17, 2009. Marilyn was born May 7, 1916, in Prairie View, Kan., to Oliver and Elda Rhoades. She lived in Kansas until the age of 12. She moved with her family to Ft. Collins, Colo., and then later to Las Vegas. Marilyn graduated from Las Vegas High School. Then she graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1939.

After graduation, Marilyn moved to Hawthorne to teach elementary school. She married Earl Edmunds, also a graduate of UNR, and a champion skier. While he served in the Air Force as a pilot, Marilyn continued teaching and later taught in Reno. After living in Reno for several years they moved to Carson City when Earl was appointed U.S.P.F.O. for Nevada.

She is survived by her brother retired Col. Jack R. Rhoades of Rancho Bernardo, Calif., and children Eric Edmunds and wife Vicki of Granbury, Texas, Nancy Bryant and husband Tim, Dr. Michael Edmunds and wife Katja both of Minden. She had eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marilyn had the honor of being Mackay Day Queen while at the university. She has had an active life belonging to Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Chapter AA of P.E.O., Mark Twain Garden Club, and the First Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed playing bridge. Her family and friends were very important to her. Marilyn will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

A small family service was held to celebrate her life.
