Attorney in Dugard case wins stay

SACRAMENTO (AP) - An attorney for kidnapping suspect Nancy Garrido says he has won a stay delaying a lower court's order ousting him from the case.

Placerville defense attorney Gilbert Maines said on his Web site Friday that he had won a stay from the 3rd District Court of Appeal after seeking a delay in the case.

Maines disputes the alleged conflict of interest that led El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Douglas Phimister to take him off the case earlier this month, saying in a filing that he never considered trying to sell Garrido's story.

Garrido, 54, and her husband, Phillip, 58, are charged with kidnapping, raping and holding Jaycee Dugard captive for 18 years.

Mt. Rose to open new day lodge on Dec. 19

RENO (AP) - Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe officials say they're getting ready to open a scenic new day lodge in the East Bowl area.

The Winters Creek Lodge is expected to open by Dec. 19, replacing a historic but inadequate lodge demolished at the end of last ski season.

The new structure has a bar overlooking Washoe and Pleasant Valleys. The lodge will be able to seat 150 people inside in a glass-walled room, and another 400 on a deck with a large fire pit as the centerpiece.
