FALLON - Construction employers are now able to stay local and get valuable safety training for new employees and supervisors, as well as comply with a state law going into effect January 1. Western Nevada College Fallon, in partnership with the Occupational Safety and Training Institute, will conduct two classes in construction safety for employees within the industry.

WNC's 10-hour course for new hires is Monday, Nov. 9, and its 30-hour training for supervisors is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Nov. 9, 10, 12 and 13.

Both classes meet 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. at the Fallon campus, 160 Campus Way. Cost per student for the 10-hour session is $150, and $325 for the 30-hour class.

To reduce workplace injuries, the 2009 Nevada Legislature enacted a law requiring construction workers to complete an Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour safety course and supervisors to complete a 30-hour OSHA training course no later than 15 days after being hired.

Instructing is Ron Schaefer, who has more than a decade of experience as a manager and in-service trainer in chemical processing, manufacturing and distribution, and four years as a master safety trainer for safety standards and programs.
