130 YEARS AGO

The Gale: The wind storm that visited Carson yesterday was the most severe that visited the city in quite some time. C.W. Friend said the wind averaged 32 miles per hour, but at times blew for 10 minutes at 40 mph. Many believed it blew at 600 mph. The dust blew and gravel stones were thrown in the face of pedestrians like hailstones. In several instances women were blown from their feet.

100 YEARS AGO

A competency board will be formed to see if Indians are qualified to be citizens. (The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 granted U.S. citizenship entirely to native Americans).

E.W. Randle of San Francisco stopped by town yesterday to see if Carson City would be a good location for a J.C. Penney Store.

Hubert Tecumsch Miller, 101, is hired as a census taker in Death Valley.
