The Carson City First United Methodist Church rummage sale continues

8 a.m.-2 p.m. today at the church youth building at the corner of Minnesota and Proctor streets in Carson City.

The community is invited to purchase vintage clothing, antiques, collectibles, household items, clothing, books, kitchen items and much more. Also offered will be whole bean SmarTrade coffee, artisan chocolate and handcrafted jewelry, all from Guatemala. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the church's Guatemala mission.

Church members began assisting with medical missions to Guatemala in 2007. This year the church will lead a service mission to La Union, an impoverished rural Guatemalan village, to improve basic health conditions and educational opportunities. Many in the village suffer intestinal diseases from contaminated water and many children suffer from chronic malnutrition from intestinal illness impacts and inadequate food.

The church mission's purpose is to foster an ongoing relationship with the local residents, and provide water purification filters for the villagers to minimize water-borne illness.
