130 YEARS AGO

The boys of Carson are talking of getting up a moonlight watermelon party at Treadway's park. They are expected to meet at the park one evening and raid all the patches in the vicinity and later meet at the pavilion where they will have a feast. The banquet will be enlivened with talks of adventure, shot gun experiences with ranchers around Carson and thrilling episodes of past seasons. All youngsters between the ages of six and 12 are invited. Citizens with eligible watermelon patches are encouraged to send their names to the Appeal offices and designate where bulldogs will be chained for the occasion.

100 YEARS AGO

Rev. J. W. Webb spoke in front of the post office last night on "The Humorous Side to the Temperance Question." He stated the presidential electors of the Prohibition party would be on the official ticket and that 10 percent of the vote should be given to them in the sense of fair play.

70 YEARS AGO

Threshing started on the H. H. Springmeyer ranch Monday morning and within the week the grain harvest will be in full swing in Carson Valley. The crop is about ten days earlier than last year.

50 YEARS AGO

Some 110 to 140 men and 40 to 50 women are needed as extras in August filming of the movie, "The Misfits."

20 YEARS AGO

A downtown revitalization group is organizing a fight against state attempts to secure three blocks across from the legislative building for Capitol complex expansion.

Two hundred people get warnings or citations for ignoring odd-even watering rules.
