130 YEARS AGO

Yesterday the driver of the Genoa stage pulled up at the Old Pony Express station in Jack's Valley and found the old German, Jack Hans, laying face down on the floor with a bullet through his heart. He went by the name of "Old Hans," but his real name was Christopher Hill. He will be buried in Genoa.

110 YEARS AGO

The latest railroad story is that of Jerry Bray watching a woman deliberately take off her stockings and turn them inside out, laced back up her shoes and went on reading. Jerry couldn't restrain his curiosity and asked the woman why she did so. "It was pretty hot, and thought if I turned the hose on me I would cool off" and then went right on reading. Jerry found something to read in an effort to occupy his mind.

80 YEARS AGO

Will Rogers, with the Fox Film company, Louise Dressler and a company of 40 are expected at Lake Tahoe for the filming of "Lightnin'." Buildings are now under construction at Cascade Lake and at Tahoe Park, near Tahoe City.

50 YEARS AGO

The Carson City police have two new automobiles to help cut down maintenance costs. The autos are two 1960 Pontiacs, purchased for $2,508 each.

20 YEARS AGO

The owner of a Carson-based company under the name of Candy Dance, Inc., says she is issuing the name legally, although organizers of Genoa's candy dance are are alleging she is violating the copyright law.

10 YEARS AGO

The nation's last tungsten mine is expected to shut permanently by the end of the year, ending an era for Bishop's 3,900 residents. The "mine in the sky" at 8,000 feet, sits on the eastern Sierra Nevada.
