LAS VEGAS (AP) - An investigation is under way into a deadly police shootout in Las Vegas.

Metro police say a robbery suspect was shot and killed late Friday outside a convenience store at the intersection of Nellis and Charleston boulevards.

Police say when officers located the suspect and approached his vehicle, the man pointed a firearm at the officers and fired two rounds.

Officers returned fire and struck the suspect, who was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man, whose name wasn't immediately released, was suspected of multiple armed robberies.

Police will release the names of the officers involved in the shooting in 48 hours in line with department policy.

It was the 20th officer-involved shooting for the department this year.
