Obituary: Lorna Pearce Poulakidas

orna Pearce Poulakidas passed away peacefully in Carson City on February 18, 2010. She was born November 24, 1920, to William and Leona Rollins Pearce in Ogden, Utah. She has been a resident of Nevada for more than 70 years. She belonged to RSVP Volunteers for more than 10 years where she received a plaque from Sen. Richard Bryan. She was a member of The American Legion Auxiliary for more than 65 years. Lorna was the assistant director of the Ely Senior Center for more than 10 years, and was also the co-conductor of the Silly Senior Symphony Band. She was a member of the Children's Cabinet Stitchers, Daughters of Penelope for 40 years, the Golden H Club and Saint Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church. Lorna was an artist with oil paintings, and an avid reader. She was affectionately known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Lorna is preceded in death by her husband Tom, both parents, two sisters, three brothers and one grandchild. She is survived by her son Gary (Diane) Russell, daughters Judith (Ben) Price, Shirley (Robert) Amundson; 12 grandchildren Michael (Christine) Price, David Price, Nicole (Mike) Zaza, Mikel (Sheila) Russell, Lori (David) White, Tamara (Ken) Stoddard, Todd (Emily) Russell, Susan (Jeff) Harris, Bradley (Mary) Burten, Lisa (Frank) Long, Melanie Petrelli, Robert (Terry) Amundson II; 37 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-laws and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held in Reno earlier this week with burial in Ely. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church or a favorite charity.
