The annual American Red Cross Real Heroes program is looking for nominations for individuals or groups - even animals - that demonstrated courage, dedication and unselfish character by helping someone last year.

Nominations must be turned in to the Northern Nevada Chapter office no later than Friday and should include a digital picture of the nominee. A nomination form is attached.

You can also download an application at www.nevada.redcross.org.

The categories for nominations this year include adult, youth, education, family, firefighter, law enforcement, medical, military and workplace heroes.

Other categories are those who saved an animal by using lifesaving training or an animal that acted courageously.

There is even a section for unsung heroes, those individuals or groups that prefer to do their good deeds without recognition.

All nominees will be honored at the Real Heroes breakfast, 7:30 a.m. March 25 at Harrah's Reno. The winner in each category is announced at that time.

Tickets are $25 per person. The proceeds of the event are used for disaster response efforts in our area. Last year the Northern Nevada chapter responded to an average of one disaster every three days.
